The name “Tara” is inspired and named after “Green Tara”
the Buddhist mother goddess, who represents action, great strength, and the
virtues of success in work and achievements. We felt like this represented the
women we were designing for.
We name products after women who inspire us. Our first bag is named The Tracy
after Tracy Chou — former Pinterest and Quora engineer and entrepreneur
— for her work in diversity and supporting women in tech. Her blog post
spurred 250 tech companies to release their otherwise-well-guarded diversity
numbers so we could have a real conversation about diversity.
There were two main problems we were trying to address with this bag:
1) The ability to evenly distribute weight when you need it (a backpack), but to
look professional when you want to (a shoulder bag).
2) Stopping "bags within bags." Too often we see women carry a smaller bag
within a larger work bag because one bag doesn't suit their needs. With the
Tracy, you have a 2-in-1 bag, so you never need to again.
